FAQs

Q?

Will getting my house insulated improve the energy rating of my home?

A.

Yes, it will increase the energy rating substantially due to the reduction of heat loss through the walls and attic.

Q?

How much will it cost?

A.

Our sales representative will call out to your house/premises and carry out a survey. They will prepare a specific quotation based on your needs, requirements and budget. Our survey and quotation service is free of charge.

Q?

Will my house qualify for a grant under the Better Energy Home Scheme?

A.

If your house was built prior to 2006 you can avail of a grant towards the cost of Attic Insulation, Cavity Wall Insulation, External Insulation and Dry Lining. Read more on our Grants section.

Q?

What is the required depth of the insulation needed in the attic?

A.

The minimum requirement is 300mm of insulation under SEAI requirements

Q?

What U Value is achieved with 300mm insulation?

A.

The U Value achieved is 0.16

Q?

How long does it take to insulate a standard attic?

A.

It normally takes 3 to 4 hours depending on how much insulation is already present in the attic

Q?

How many holes will be drilled in my walls?

A.

Holes of 22mm diameter will be kept to a minimum to allow 100% filling of cavity.

Q?

How do you know when the cavity is full?

A.

Holes are drilled in the external walls in an IAB approved pattern and the bead is injected into the cavity under high pressure. Through gravity and this pressure the bead naturally flows to the bottom of the cavity and continues to fill upwards. The beads will continue to fill any available space. When the cavity is full pressure builds internally and back pressure automatically stops the injection gun.

Q?

Will the installation of cavity insulation damage my home?

A.

The only visual change to your home when the work is being carried out is the drill holes in your external walls, when the insulation has been pumped the holes are filled with a matching coloured mortar/ dash etc.

Q?

Can the cavity of a timber frame house be insulated?

A.

The cavity in a timber frame house should not be pumped with an insulation product. If the cavity is filled it affects the integrity of the breathable membrane of the building which is essential in preventing the ingress of water from the other leaf to the timber structure. The walls in this building can be re-insulated with External Insulation or by Dry-lining.

Q?

Can cavity or solid blocks be pumped with insulation?

A.

No, the solution would be to dry-line the internal walls of the house or fit a finished insulation system to the external walls of the house.
