SEAI Better Energy Homes Scheme 

Who is eligible to apply?

The scheme is open to all houses built prior to 2006, including rental properties.

What items are needed when applying?

  • Your MPRN Number (found on your electricity bill)
  • Name & address
  • E-Mail Address
  • Contractor ID number (Breffni Insulation ID number: 10013)
  • Your Bank Details


  • The grant is only eligible for homes built before 2006
  • Grant approval must be in place before works commence
  • Grant works must be completed to SEAI standards by a SEAI registered contractor
  • Grant works, including a published BER, must be completed and paperwork submitted to SEAI within six months of the grant offer.

The scheme is now available for previous applicants to get additional works completed.

The previous minimum grant threshold of €400 has been abolished.

SEAI Warmer Homes Scheme 

This scheme is available to homes which meet the following criteria:

  • Owner occupied non-Local Authority homes
  • Constructed before 2006
  • The owner is in receipt of one of the following:
    1. Fuel Allowance as part of the National Fuel Scheme or
    2. Job Seekers Allowance for over six months and with children under 7 years of age or
    3. Working Family Payment or
    4. One-Parent Family Payment or
    5. Domiciliary Care Allowance or
    6. Carers Allowance and live with the person you are caring for (effective from 1st August 2018)
  • You have not previously received works under the Warmer Homes Scheme

The service involves the installation of standard energy efficiency measures appropriate to the eligible household subject to SEAI survey, budget allocation and available capacity. The service is provided at no cost to the household and the measures currently available under this scheme are:

  • External Wall Insulation
  • Internal Wall Insulation
  • Cavity Wall insulation
  • Attic insulation
  • Ventilation
  • Draught proofing
  • Lagging jackets
  • Heating Upgrades
  • Windows
  • Low energy light bulbs
  • Energy advice

Warmth and Wellbeing Pilot Scheme

The Warmth and Wellbeing Scheme aims to improve the living conditions of vulnerable people living with chronic respiratory conditions. The initiative is led by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, along with the Department of Health and the Health Services Executive (HSE).

This is a referral based scheme and no direct applications to the SEAI are possible. To qualify for the scheme you must be referred by the HSE and meet all of the eligibility criteria. To find out more information about this scheme please click here.
